Seattle, WA | System of a Run Course January 23-24, 2015
I have recently joined the triathlete world, and as a Physical Therapist, found it very important to be proficient in working with endurance athletes. Injuries in the sport are inevitable and often difficult to overcome. I have been working with elite athletes my entire PT career; however, endurance athletes have a greater difficulty returning to full prior function. Initially I utilized all of the resources Chris made available on his YouTube channel to educate myself on different strategies and techniques to incorporate into the clinic. The fact that he is willing to share his suggestions without expecting anything in return tells you what Chris is all about. On occasion I reached out to Chris to further discuss treatment options/considerations. He always made himself available via email or phone, and always took the time to help whenever possible. Knowing his background in endurance sports and the confidence and passion in which he educates, presents and speaks made me a believer in his school of thought and system. After connecting with Chris frequently, my significant other (also a PT) decided to fly from Texas to Seattle to attend Chris’ “Systems of a Run Course”. Both being endurance athletes and working in the PT field, we were very excited and eager to expand our knowledge. We developed a good understanding of what it takes for endurance athletes to recover from injuries and different approaches in getting them there.
I have recently had an opportunity to work with a triathlete and friend who has been experiencing moderate to severe pain into his knee for a few months. The pain was limiting his ability to train and get through daily activities such as stairs and sitting. Utilizing the assessments and treatment approach presented by Chris, improvements were quickly noted. The hardest part in dealing with endurance athletes is having them “shut it down” until ready, however, my patient was willing to do whatever it takes if the results would be there. I was determined to get him back to his previous racing form pain-free and was fortunate to have Chris as a resource to help me along the way. With the patient’s willingness to comply, he has been able to return to full competition and this past weekend completed New Orleans Ironman 70.3. I congratulated him on his successful finish and killer time of less than 5 hours, inquiring how his knee held up. He responded: “You got me back to running, so you were there with me! You made it possible. The knee didn’t hurt at all, just expected muscle soreness now. I am extremely happy!” I was just as happy to hear that and gave Chris an update as he guided me throughout.
I am very thankful for all of the help Chris has offered. He is just an overall great person whose primary goal is helping people who cross his path. I sometimes wonder if he runs on a different clock because I don’t know how he manages to fit everything he does into his schedule. The rehab and triathlete community is lucky to have a guy like him! Thanks for everything Chris!

Seattle, WA | When Can I Run? Workshop May 10, 2014

This is the second time I have heard Chris speak and train. I took this course after I heard him speak at the Shoulder Course in Seattle a few months ago. He is an absolute expert in his trade. I have taken a few running courses in the past and this one-day event gave me a very specific set of routines, assessment, and drills that I can apply immediately the following week. Chris successfully conducts a lab course and weaves in the evidence-based theory behind these. He backs everything up with experience and science. He focuses on the holistic approach to running: from top to bottom.
In this course, be sure to wear comfortable running clothing and be prepared for a mix of hands-on approach as well as exercise-based treatments. Chris not only offers an eclectic approach to the evaluation and treatment of running injuries but he also maintains an emphasis on his own experiences, his knowledge of running as a sport and empathy to the general population who find running a recreational activity.
Chris is very passionate about what he does and it shows. From learning exercise drills to testing the perfect running shoe, I was able to apply the concepts on myself immediately the next day and started to see some major improvements in some of my patients after I started incorporating them that same week.
If you're looking for a useful one-day running injury and prevention course that will not be a "sit-all-day-lecture" and have the rest of the weekend off, this course is a must!

New York City | When Can I Run? Workshop April 19, 2014

Not only did I have the chance to meet Chris (who has been quite generous in the past sharing his clinical expertise with me) but also the owner of Equilibrium Physical Therapy, Matthew Rome, and his hospitable staff.
Brooklyn is full of runners, from recreational to elite, grade school to senior. One of our main goals at MovEvolution Physical Therapy is to help our runners achieve rehab success stories as efficiently as possible. This means knowing when to return our runner to the Brooklyn streets.
I've taken many good running courses. But never have I gained so much practical, applicable and adaptable information as I did at When Can I Run?. First day back in the studio, I was already using Chris’s single limb stance screening tool with a client wishing to run a 5K obstacle course. I’m anxious to try a few of his oscillatory and PNF techniques on an elite runner recovering from a hamstring pull.
When Can I Run? offers lots of demos and lab with hands-on practice. Be prepared to bare your feet because everyone gladly gets involved!

Chris teaches from the heart and is passionate, as he is knowledgeable, about the subject matter of running. He kept the workshop lively and interesting with visuals, real life demos and an engaging and sincere personality. His presentation flowed with smooth transition, without diverging from main topics or overloading his audience with irrelevant info.
From lace tips to training tips, When Can I Run? gives the physical therapist many useful, up-to-date, evidence-based tools for his tool box. I highly recommend this workshop to any physical therapist who has or envisions having running clientele. I have reached a new level of confidence in treating the injured runner. heal. move. run. evolve. ~Richard Symister MSPT, CKTP, CSCS, USTAF Level 1 MovEvolution Physical Therapy | Brooklyn, NY |
